NAME Des O’Hare
BIRTHPLACE I tell everyone Glasgow – but it was so full up I got shunted to Paisley (true story!)
PREVIOUS CLUBS Dreghorn Chess Club just about sums up my footballing talent!
CHILDHOOD CRUSH Cilla Black, probably the main cause of my tinnitus in later years.
FAVOURITE PROFESSIONAL PLAYER OF ALL TIME
Jeez. Probably any one of the Lisbon Lions, but I’m going to say Henrik Larsson, just because I was lucky enough to have a great seat during his stay at Celtic and never missed a home game.
FAVOURITE BROWNS CLUB PLAYER AND WHY
I’m going with Ronnie. Makes everyone welcome and is marvellous with nicknames. He’s so easy to mark on the field, all you need is good hearing!
MOST DIFFICULT BROWNS CLUB OPPONENT
Easy one here! Has to be Andy Liddell. He knows what I’m trying to do at least 5 minutes before I do. Makes the game look so easy. His game is effortless.
MOST MEMORABLE MATCH
2003 UEFA cup final in Seville. I was in Florida at the time. Found a Celtic Pub and made a day of it with my wife (designated driver) and my eldest son (who is not really football minded. The pub was jumping with Irish groups before the game and Irish dancers after. The bar was at least 4 deep so jugs of beer were the order of the day. Thomas (my eldest) appeared with green hair at half time. I sported green hair two minute later! Margaret ( my wife) sported a bemused look, but with the beer and the heat, nobody noticed.Heart break result, but we partied none the less. Long drive home and a pitstop at the entrance of Disneyland. I’ll leave it at that!!!
BIGGEST THRILL
Getting married, being at the birth of my two sons…. And the 1967 European cup final, never to be repeated. The whole street watched it and then came out after to play footie.
JOHN LENNON OR PAUL MCARTNEY
Not really a Beatles fan so I’m going with Ringo! Not as bad a drummer as McCartney made out!
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT Celtic not getting 10-in-a-row a couple of years ago.
BEST COUNTRY VISITED
Travelled quite a bit when I retired, so this is a hard one. I’ll go for the USA. I love their national parks, and I love visiting film locations.
FAVOURITE FOOD
Anything with an ‘n’ in the middle….Chips ‘n’ egg! Bangers’n’ mash! Toast ‘n’ beans! Mince ‘n’ tatties!
FAVOURITE PORTUGUESE FOOD Anything that starts with Piri Piri.
FAVOURITE DRINK John Smiths beer.
MISCELLANEOUS LIKES
Chess, drums, Skiing, dancing, football, and waterfalls, but not in that particular order
MISCELLANEOUS DISLIKES
People who start a sentence with ‘So…’ Bad drivers. So called ‘celebrities’. Terms and conditions after an advert to name just a few. People who moan a lot, especially when they really don’t have anything to moan about. Margaret says I should put myself in that group)
FAVOURITE TV SHOW Game of Thrones by a country mile.
FAVOURITE FILM Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I just love the fight scene at the beginning!
FAVOURITE SINGER No… NOT Cilla Black! Split decision between Daltry and Jagger
FAVOURITE ACTOR Paul Newman/ Anthony Hopkins
BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON CAREER
I have to say my wife. Been a couple since we were in our mid-teens. Agreed to me suggesting selling our house to set up my drug dealer business. Big risk!
BIGGEST DRAG IN SOCCER Bigotry!
WHAT ONE ITEM WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU TO A DESERT ISLAND Chip shop!
WHICH PERSON IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO MEET
I’d love to have an evening with Billy Connolly. He has a knack of seeing the best of things and always has a great perspective.
